Autumn Whisperings

rising into the air

I twirl
and the white skirt swirls
around me
rising into the air
a gentle cloud

Dark beckons
and i dance
into the night
dance under the moon and stars
feet stirring grass
damp with dew
arms raised to heaven
swaying, dancing;
music swelling in my ears
as i dance
in moonlight.

I wrote this for Stone Soup.. rejected, but I received a really sweet note with it *is very proud of herself* (posted 2003-05-14)

She is a creature of autumns -- alike the leaves that tumble unto the ground, she will wither and rot before the snow falls ... what remains of her will become frozen.  seeds that bury themselves into the ground.  slowly grinding their way upwards through the dirt as Spring approaches -- and then, through the fullness of the Summer, she will slowly spread her wings again as the flowers spread their petals.  Set free only once the leaves fall, once more, to joyously soar for a few weeks -- dancing among the dew-covered fields with her eyes shut and her head thrown back ... and then fallng, tumbling, dying ... rotting ... reborn once more. First piece by Ki, poem "Moonlight Dancer"; second from Swedish artist Linda Bergkvist who created a full image of "Autumn Whisperlings."
Ki was 13, entranced by both script and image, asked Linda to reproduce the Fae's head for an LJ icon. She always loves it and it's there atop this entry.

Tim Burton made "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", film with Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. One scene shows a woman twirling and rising into the air, recalling Ki's image immediately

Arms raised to heaven, she will slowly spread her wings again.  Endlessly.
